Search Your Family Tree

Parish Public Library will offer a class on "Genology 101" on Saturday, January 31 from 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The beginning class will be a starting point for people who want to trace their family tree. The instructor, Donna Donahue will discuss the initial steps in researching your family history, keeping a research log, and finding useful websites like Ancestery.com, Family Search and census records. Space is limited to ten people.  Pre-registration is required. Call the Parish Library at 625-7130 to reserve your spot.

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE

Make a point to see The Parish Public Library at work in your community. The public is invited to attend the annual Community Open House on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. At noon music will be provided by the Selkirk Band. Santa Claus will visit at 2:00 pm. Refreshments will be served. Call 625-7130 for further information.

POLICIES FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER

If Altmar Parish Williamstown Schools are closed due to bad weather, the Parish Public Library will also be closed. If there are no after school activities due to bad weather, the Library will be closed in the evening. The Library may also be closed at the discretion of the library director.

FRIENDS OF THE PARISH LIBRARY

The Friends of Parish Library is a vital and active organization supporting the  Library. Their purpose is to promote knowledge, function and services and needs of the library. They support the library through fund raising and promoting the library through community services. Anyone in the ninth grade and older is invited to join. Their activities include the Christmas open house and the Easter Egg hunt.

The group meets the first Thursday of the the following months; March, April, May, June, September, October, November and December. Meetings are held at Library at 7:00 pm. Come and join them!

BONE BUILDERS

The Osteo Bone Builders meet at the Library to exercise on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:30 pm. The program is designed to rebuild bone density and improve balance through weight training and exercise.The regimen helps to protect against fractures caused by osteoporosis. The educational format covers lifestyle choices, drug therapies and nutritional information, all of which have an impact on controlling osteoporosis.

Prior to joining a class, prospective participants are encouraged to observe a class and obtain medical clearance. The group is led by Nancy Smith.

PARISH WRITERS GROUP BEGINS FALL SEMESTER

The Parish Writers Group began their  fall semester on Tuesday, September 23. They will continue to meet for 6 weeks at the library.  It is a casual group and each member brings a piece they have written to share with the others. The members write on topics of interest to themself to share so many interests are covered; poetry, local history, mystery. If you would like to join with them just be at the library at 6:00 pm on Tuesdays.

The group originated about 15 years ago and continues each year with a fall and spring session.

Columbus Day Holiday Closing

The Parish Public Library will be closed on Monday, October 13 in observation of the Columbus Day Holiday.
